Fluorescent derivatization agent: O-Phthalaldehyde (OPA) is a non fluorescent compound that forms fluorescent indole derivatives in the presence of primary amines and free thiols. This fluorescent complex can be excited by ultraviolet light and emits light in the blue region of the visible spectrum, with a maximum emission wavelength of around 430nm. It is used in combination with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and fluorescence detection (FL) to detect amino acid concentrations in blood and study enzyme active sites. Efficient disinfectant: OPA is a high-level disinfectant that has been approved by the FDA. It contains at least 0.55% 1,2-benzaldehyde and has become the most commonly used "aldehyde" class highly effective disinfectant in the United States. OPA solution is a clear light blue liquid with a pH value of 7.5, which has excellent microbial killing activity, including the killing effect on mycobacteria. Organic synthesis: OPA is used as an important raw material for the synthesis of industrial products such as dyes, fluorescent whitening agents, pharmaceuticals, and fragrances in organic synthesis. Due to its two active aldehyde groups, it can self polymerize or copolymerize with other monomers to form polymer compounds with various properties. |
