Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is an anionic cellulose ether with various functions and applications. It is a white or milky white powder or granule, almost odorless, tasteless, and hygroscopic. CMC is easily dispersed in water to form a transparent gel like solution, but it is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol.
