Introduction

Irone Liquid is a fragrance ingredient with the molecular formula C14H22O. It is a yellowish liquid that is soluble in alcohol and a mixture of three isomers (α-, β, and γ-irone). The α-isomer has a rich, floral and natural character and constitutes an important element in orris and violet compositions. It is extremely diffusive and gives volume and tenacity to compositions. Irone Liquid has a characteristic orris and violet-like odor, with taste characteristics at 10 ppm described as woody, fruity, raspberry, orris, and berry with seedy nuances. It is produced by an endophytic fungus in the rhizomes of Iris germanica.
